Lubart's Castle

back
Visit the main tourist object in Lutsk – the medieval castle preserved from the 14th century. It is the winner of Ukrainian Contest "Seven Wonders of Ukraine: Castles, Palaces, Fortresses" in the category Castles.

The history of Lutsk castle covers more than six hundred years. In 1340-1384 Lithuanian Prince Lubart started construction of the castle. However construction was not completed until 1430-1452, during the time of Prince Švitrigaila. The structure is an example of how renaissance architecture can be combined with gothic style.

With three high rectangular towers - Vizna (Entrance Tower), Styrova and Vladycha - Lutsk Castle is the main attraction of Lutsk and is the site of numerous different cultural events (e.g. festivals, concerts, exhibitions, knight’s tournaments). By requesting a tour, you can climb the highest tower of the castle, or explore the foundations of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Theologian (XII century) - The first Orthodox church in Lutsk, built in the yard of the Castle.

Lubart’s Castle was the winner of the Ukrainian Contest "Seven Wonders of Ukraine: Castles, Palaces, Fortresses" in the category of Castles.
