Lutsk played jazz for peace

The participants of Charity Jazz Night in Lutsk proved that we can also fight with music. The Charity Jazz Night of the VII International Jazz Festival «Art Jazz Cooperation» took place on the 31st of August in Lutsk.

Due to the fact that soldiers from Lutsk are almost daily killed in the Eastern Ukraine, the organizers decided to cancel the festival in the Lutsk castle, even though the part that usually takes place in Rivne will still be hold. The host of the event, Natalia Voytovych, said that the event that will take place in Lutsk instead will aim for gathering money for the 51st Mechanized Brigade. Everyone who came to visit the Charity Jazz Night was able to support the militaries.

The organizer of the festival, the president of Lutsk Jazz Club, Oleg Bakovsky said that terrorism really wants to see us crying and suffering, so we decided not to behave like this. “Music is always something positive and good, so we’re giving this good to people”, - he added.

The General Consul of Poland in Lutsk Beata Bzhyvchy said that is not easy to find words when Ukraine lives through such difficult times, when people are dying every day and when almost every week Lutsk says goodbye to its heroes.

“There is an ongoing debate: to play or not play. In our opinion, the weapons of every musician are instruments and voice. We are at a little different war now. We’re fighting for the informational space, we’re struggling to keep it Ukrainian”, - said the members of the “Give Peace” band.

Consul Krzysztof Savitsky said that jazz is an indication of a high culture, which should always exist. He said that when Polish and Ukrainian musicians play together they support Ukraine. He apologized to the public for the changes in the program of the festival.
