Lutsk Castle

The history of the castle dates back to six hundred years. During 1340-1384 the Grand Duke of Lithuania Lubart Gedyminovych started  qualitative renovation of fortifications, replacing the wooden fortifications with brick ones. After the death of Lubart the renewal of the Castle was continued by Vytautas Keistutovych. Castle has three high rectangular towers: Entrance, Styrova and Bishop’s.

Guests of the city can visit museum of Bells, Book museum and Art museum on the Castle courtyard. If you book an excursion, you can climb the highest tower of the Castle (27 m), or see the foundations of the ancient church of John the Theologian (XII century.) – the Orthodox sanctuary of Lutsk. Castle hosts various cultural events such as festivals, concerts, exhibitions, knights’ tournaments. Many participants gather in Lutsk for the art show “Night in Lutsk Castle”.
